Roar Like a Lion {Review and Giveaway}

One of the questions I’m asked the most by parents at my church is, “I’m looking for a good devotional for [my elementary-aged child]. Do you have any suggestions?” I have a short list of favorites that I often recommend. Sadly, the list is short because I don’t often come across ones that I like. I was recently asked to take a look at Levi Lusko’s new devotional for kids called Roar Like a Lion, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it.

Roar Like a Lion

MY THOUGHTS

The first thing that jumped out to me about this book was the vibrant colors. It’s visually appealing and will definitely draw children in. I love that once you open the book, the content is just as appealing. I love the Bible verses that were chosen – they are easy to understand and make God’s Word come to life.

One of my favorite parts of the book is the “Did You Know” section. It gives kids more to think about by sharing fun facts and historical elements that tie in to each devotional.

I would have loved if a question or 2 for the kids to answer about what they’ve read was included. I think providing such prompts could help them apply and reflect upon each devotional’s content.

Elementary-age kids will enjoy this resource, but I think 2nd-4th graders will devour its contents.

NIV Adventure Bible – Polar Exploration Edition {Review and Giveaway}

For as long as I can remember, I have loved the Adventure Bible. Both of my children, who are grown now, had their own copy growing up. I also selected this Bible (the NIV) to give to second graders at our church for our 2nd Grade Bible Presentation Sunday each fall.

Imagine my surprise when I was asked to review the new Adventure Bible – Polar Exploration Edition. Honestly, my first thought was, “Do we need a penguin-themed Bible?” To me, it’s the same as Chick fil A changing their lemonade recipe – it’s unthinkable!

But, as a loyal supporter of the original, I was curious to take a peek at this new edition.

MY THOUGHTS

Upon the first glance, the Bible looked cool – literally! The icy blue hues made it seem cold to the touch. The inside of the Bible looks pretty typical of the classic Adventure Bible – the font, font size, layout, informative text boxes, and deeper insight pages.

There are penguin touches throughout the Bible, from the penguin paw prints at the top of each page to pictures of penguins inside the text boxes.

All in all, if your child loves the Arctic and arctic animals, they will love this Bible. Otherwise, I think the classic Adventure Bible will do.

“LET IT BE JESUS” Review & Giveaway

 ChristyNockels_web
The first time I heard of Christy Nockels was during the weeks and months leading up to the 2014 KidMin Conference.  Christy was slated to lead worship during portions of the conference, so I was definitely looking forward to hearing her.
I was not disappointed!  Christy’s voice was phenomenal.  Her stage presence spoke confidence.  Her personal stories in between songs were ones I connected to.  She was able to usher thousands of kidmin leaders into worship in a very special, personal way.
When I was presented the opportunity to review Christy’s new CD, “Let It Be Jesus”, I jumped at the opportunity and once again she didn’t disappoint.
The CD has a mix of slow and upbeat songs, all of which are worshipful.  I envision that many of the songs will become favorites of church worship leaders and contemporary Christian music lovers everywhere.  My absolute favorites are tracks 2, 5 and 6.
You will love this CD in church, in the car, at home, and everywhere.  Be sure to grab it when it releases on April 28th…OR…you could enter to win a digital copy!
About Christy:
As a worship leader for many years, she has been an integral part of Passion Conferences from its inception in 1997.  She’s seen first hand music sweep people into the presence of God in a powerful way. A pastor’s kid, who was born in Fort Worth and raised in Oklahoma, she grew up singing in church. She met her husband, Nathan, in 1993 at the Christian Artists Seminar in Estes Park, Co. They recorded an independent record with fellow worship leader Charlie Hall under the name Sons & Daughters that led to an invitation from Louie Giglio to participate in the first Passion conference in Austin. Christy’s voice gained a national platform when she and Nathan formed the duo Watermark, recording four acclaimed albums before that musical season ended, paving the way for Christy’s solo career. In 2008, the couple moved to Atlanta to become part of Passion City Church where she serves on the worship team with sixstepsrecords labelmates Chris Tomlin and Kristian Stanfill. The following year, Nockels released her acclaimed solo debut, Life Light Up and spent much of the next two years touring with Tomlin and Passion.
